St Ninian's Day Parade - registering school groups

On Thursday 16th September the St Ninian's Day Parade will mark the historic occasion of Pope Benedict XVI’s state visit to Scotland. Schools and community groups are all invited to line the route in Edinburgh's famous Princes Street where thousands of Saltires will be given-out to create a sea of blue.  This will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate St Ninian and welcome Pope Benedict XVI to Scotland.

The St Ninian's Day Parade will begin about 11am and will consist of:

  • Our VIPs - children from Scottish schools called St Ninian.
  • Top Pipe Bands from around Scotland
  • Historical characters from 1600 years of Christian history
  • St Ninian led by a guard of honour.

To read more about this event go to the St Ninians' Day Parade website.

We were delighted and honoured to have participated in this historic occasion. The children will carry in their hearts the complete joy of yesterday's pageant and waving with love to the Holy Father.

Many thanks to everyone who helped to organise this pageant and support it to run so smoothly.

A group of children from P7 in St.Mary's Primary School Bannockburn will be working on a joint project with a group of children from St.Ninian’s Primary in preparation for the St.Ninian’s Day Pageant in Edinburgh.  Children from both Stirling schools will work together to research the lives of St.Ninian and Pope Benedict. The children will also design banners which will be displayed during the Pageant.  We view this project as a great opportunity for partnership working.

This is a great idea, Theresa. As the project progresses, can we display photographs and some of the children's work on the website?
